It is easy to remain in a comfort zone. Often people remain in a comfort zone because it is familiar. Although it may be dysfunctional, unfulfilling, or even depressing, they feel that at least they know what to except. Pushing outside of one’s comfort zone often seems difficult because it involves the unfamiliar and the unfamiliar can be frightening.
Today I decided to venture outside of my comfort zone. Where I reside, I have never driven south of a certain street. The reason I did not drive south of this particular street was not because it was dangerous but because I was unfamiliar with what lay on the other side of it. It just always seemed better to stay within a certain perimeter because it involved less effort than venturing beyond that boundary. To my surprise however, there was a whole different world beyond that self-made southern boundary that consisted of beautiful shops, shopping malls, and restaurants. This bountiful world was there the whole time but I never partook of it because of self-imposed limitations.
The same is true in our spiritual walk. There is a world of blessing that is available to us now but many people do not experience it because of self-imposed boundaries and limitations. Refusing to step out on faith beyond one’s comfort zone can confine them to a mundane and mediocre existence. We must open our minds, hearts, and will to go beyond our status quo because the Bible informs us that God is “able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20). Don’t fear going outside of your comfort zone because God is always with you (Hebrews 13:5) as you venture out. There is a great blessing on the other side!
